It's Raining, It's Pouring and Texas is drowning!

You know the old kids song "Rain, rain go away, Come again another day. (Fill in the blank with name) friends all want to play, rain, rain go away." That's how we feel down here in Texas. In the early months of the year we were literally praying for rain because the drought of the past few years had left our lakes at an all time low, one was almost completely dry. With the excruciatingly hot summers we usually have we desperately wanted (needed) some rain to fill our lakes before summer hit. God has heard and answered our prayers and I feel a little bad saying "Okay, God? We're good now! Please let it stop!"

This much rain in such a short amount of time has caused the typical problems. School activities have been canceled. Soccer and baseball games may not get made up this season and our our typical hot Memorial Day weekend spent on the boat was just not an option. The whole Marina was underwater. The bathrooms, the parking lot, the boat ramp, all under water.

There are however some pluses to this rain. The Trinity River (incredibly loosely named) is usually nothing more then a small creek that runs in the bottom of the Dallas levees. Small enough in fact that you could take your shoes off and walk across it. Right now it looks like the Mississippi (not an exaggeration), it's beautiful! We have not needed to water our yard all year long. Not once have we turned on our sprinklers and let's be honest, that's saving us some money. Our lakes that were empty or close to empty are full, completely full! It is such a wonderful thing to drive over Lake Ray Hubbard and see how much water is in it, especially when only months ago many of the boats were sitting on dried up mud. The sky has been beautiful lately! So many colors. So many cool clouds to look at. I really love the contrast of the dark gray sky against the deep green trees.

I realize the problems I listed above from all this rain are trivial. My house has not been ruined by a tornado. My cars have escaped the rising water and have not been marked up or ruined by the hail. And my family is safe! Others have not been so lucky this season. Weather walking, riding in their cars or simply hanging out in their homes some have been swept away from the rising water levels. Others have had their homes destroyed by high winds and tornadoes.

I am thankful for the rain, we needed it so badly, and I am thankful for the beautiful colors in the ski but mostly I am thankful for the safety of my home and family. And so, God? Really, we're good!

And now ... it's time to play catch up on the blog!
